With the million or so crowd, endless refreshment stalls, the bee-line makeshift booths trinketing various sources of necessities, one does NOT NEED for Thaipusam, - the 2013 Batu Caves Thaipusam was again a 'has-been, have seen cliche' affair. The same overtly decorated and hyped Kavadis made this year's Thaipusam another "grand" fiesta but a halting spectacle.
Apart from the free food and drinks namely from PDRM, Amma, Babaji Yoga Centre and Immigration Dept - a big thanks to all of them for their Thaipusam spirit, one must understand, Thaipusam is NOT about selling and making a fast buck or to sabotage Ganesha. It's a religious festival to pay homage to Murugan and everything within the temple ground should encase 'religious consciousness'. Putting up booth for political mileage and having gigantic flower garland bestowed upon and spewing and highlighting political interest is not what Thaipusam should be.
I'm actually done with Batu Caves Thaipusam.
2014, I should make it to Penang's "fiesta" as this year's "twist-of-turn-event" travel plans got me all bogged down. As a Penangaite, I've missed dearly Penang's Thaipusam which is a lot more interesting, for a good many years.
