Over the past few weeks I've been feverishly writing to agents all over the world hoping to find that one lil' opener, spark for representation.
And I wrote to Donald Maass.
Two days ago to my utter wow...astonishment, the Donald Maass himself ACTUALLY replied. It came with the normal rejection template but I felt ecstatic reading his letter.
Why?
How often does one [a small time aspiring novelist like me ] get a reply from one of the leading Literary Agents from the Big Apple.
For info : Donald Maass agency churns out New York Bestsellers out of every writer or author they represent. { almost }
I'm not sad nor disheartened being rejected but feeling-felicitous as my work being read and appraised by literary giants.
I'll still wana continue this journey of mine seeking for representation and prove to that 'washout-dork' that I will MAKE it as a novelist and that he will READ my book and that MAKE him sickly swallow his own words. Prolly, I might ask him if he would like ketchup to marinate with his words before I shoot him in his foot and make him apologize for his daftness. {I'm merely challenging my self pursuing my personal glory as a writer } This is the chap who told he's gonna publish his novel which I'm still waiting for, 5 years down the line.....hahahaha. [ lil'talk ]
Anyway...make haste ... my journey for representation continues........
Below is the letter from Donald Maass himself.
""Dear Siva Manika/ Author:
Thanks for your query. I apologize for this form response, but the volume of mail I receive makes it impossible to send individual replies in every case.
As to your material, I am afraid I must pass. I represent a very full list of writers, and must be highly selective in adding to it. I realize that it is difficult to judge your potential from a query alone; nevertheless, please know that we give serious attention to every letter, outline and writing sample that we receive.
I wish I could talk with every author who contacts us. Although that is not possible, you can read an interview with me on the subject of career development on my agency’s website at www.maassagency.com .
Thank you for contacting me. I wish you the very best of luck in your search for representation.
Sincerely,
DONALD MAASS""
They say failure is the pillar of success...these are the lil'things that inspires me to power up, drink red bull...hahaha..and move further to achieving my literary goal.
Thanks Donald for the reply.
Pssttt:: there's a lil'bit of good news from Australia.. have to wait till December.
It is a long journey, but you will get there.
