Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, the Home Minster insisted today that BERSIH is still outlawed, saying neither an audience with the King nor moving the planned July 9 rally to a stadium could turn the electoral reforms movement legal.
However, the home minister said BERSIH could still apply for a permit for the July 9 gathering using “other methods.”
However, the home minister said BERSIH could still apply for a permit for the July 9 gathering using “other methods.”
“No, they're still banned, still illegal. Nobody can be above the law. Just because Tuanku met them, doesn’t mean they're no longer illegal,” he said, referring to the audience granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to BERSIH yesterday, after which it accepted the stadium offer.
Question :
- How can BERSIH, pronounced an illegal civil-rights movement be granted to seek an audience with the King?
- How can BERSIH be permitted and given the approval by the King and the Government to hold a rally?
- If the King had granted the go-ahead with the rally, the Home Minister insists no one is above the law and says BERSIH is still illegal.
- In the history of Malaysia, the Malaysian Government NEVER compromises with any illegal organization or party, but had agreed to meet up with the organizers of the BERSIH rally deemed illegal and dangerous.
