Stateless Indians ...

Today a massive protest will be staged outside the National Registration Department (NRD) in Putrajaya over unresolved issues of stateless Malaysian Indians in the country.
Thousands are expected to turn up including victims, activists, civil societies, and members of the Opposition Party. The exact figure is not known but a large turnout is expected. Approximately 450,000 Indians in Malaysia are without proper document to call themselves Malaysians. The mobilization started some 3 weeks ago and had gained momentum since then.
Many will be out in tents, with food and provision and will not move away from the area until the government resolves the problem of Malaysian Indians being denied proper identification documents.
Something that could be avoided had become a national issue owing to the ignorance of the Registration Department and the Malaysian Government.  Depriving almost 300,000 Malaysian born Indians from acquiring proper document and denying livelihood is a gross violation of human rights.
The issue of helping stateless Indians started a long-time ago but to no avail. This is a national problem and should not be construed a problem of the minority or third class mentality. If one is born in Malaysia, one has all rights to be called Malaysian and have proper documents attest to that.
The issue of the National Registration Department denying identity cards or any other document is a gross violation of dignity and birth right as well.
If you are one way or the other affected by the above irrespective if you’re Indian, Malay or Chinese, you have a right to assembe at Putrajaya TODAY to claim your birth right.

Is that 1 M'sia or giving the finger?

++ On a personal note, I do know of an entire family (Malaysia born Indians) who did not have any birth certificate nor IC untill very much later in their lifes. One even commited suicide due to not having an IC to seek work.
